Hoover softball has work to do after splitting its first two area tournament games on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs earned the right to host and to the top seed in the Class 7A, Area 5 Tournament. They took care of business in the first game, defeating No. 4 Thompson, 12-5.
Hoover racked up 15 hits, including big home runs from Abby Tissier -- who returned from an injury -- and Caroline Hart. Jamie Gregg was 5-for-5 with three runs scored, and Kaley Anthony made up for some first-inning errors with a pair of hits and three runs driven in.
Thompson scored four unearned runs in the first, but the Lady Bucs brought the game back even in the bottom half. Hoover's five runs in the bottom of the fifth broke the game open for good.
Abby Grace Praytor went the distance in the contest, allowing seven hits and just one earned run.
Game 2 didn't go as well for the Lady Bucs, as Oak Mountain scored in each of the first four innings and opened up a 9-1 lead. Shelby Lowery was the bright spot offensively, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Willa Green also added a solo shot.
With the win, Oak Mountain clinched a spot in the area tournament championship game and a spot at Regionals.
Hoover will face the winner between Thompson and Tuscaloosa County -- who play Friday at 4:30 p.m. -- at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Bucs must win to secure a Regional berth.
