Hoover overcame a 10-3 halftime deficit with 21 unanswered points, scoring an impressive 24-10 victory over Georgia’s Colquitt High School.
Despite managing only 100 yards in the first half, Hoover rallied in the final two quarters behind its new quarterback, junior Jack Hutcheson. Overcoming a first half in which he completed only 4 of his 15 pass attempts, Hutcheson passed for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns in the final two quarters.
The Hoover defense, led by All-American cornerback Marlon Humphrey, held Colquitt to a mere 76 yards rushing and a scoreless second half.
Over 12,000 fans poured into the Hoover Met to see the defending champion Hoover Bucs face traditional power Colquitt, which is led by former Hoover coach Rush Propst.
The game, broadcast by ESPNU, pitted Alabama’s top team against one of the leading programs in the State of Georgia.
Hoover took the lead for good, 17-10, when Hutcheson passed to Leornard Wood for a 49-yard touchdown pass.
The Bucs, held to only 4 first downs before half time, ended the game with 15 first downs and 21 consecutive points to close the game.
Hoover faces Hueytown next week at the Hoover Met.
