Earlier this winter, the Simmons Middle School’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) gave back to the community by collecting cans for the needy and participating in an extensive cleanup on school grounds and surrounding areas.
SAC members gave up two hours of their weekend to clean up debris around the stadium area and pick up sticks and pinecones in an effort to clean out flowerbeds around the school. They also cleaned up trash along the property line adjacent to The Preserve and from the various parking lot areas and from the tennis courts. All in all, the work of the SAC did much to improve the appearance of the school and surrounding areas and taught the students the benefit of working together for a common goal.
In addition, over a two week period, a canned drive sponsored by the SAC collected more than 2,500 cans. It took two vanloads to haul the canned goods away to an organization that distributes them to the many needy people in the area.
