Minnette Wiggins
Trace Crossings' first-grade teacher Minnette Wiggins has been selected as one of 16 finalists for Alabama Teacher of the Year. Finalists were announced by the Alabama Department of Education Wednesday, April 1.
Wiggins was selected by Hoover City Schools as one of the top two Teachers of the Year in January along with Spain Park High School teacher Tosha Caston-Smith.
Wiggins has served in education for more than 32 years. HCS Teachers of the Year are put forward as State Board of Education District IV candidates for the Alabama Teacher of the Year Program, administered by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Alabama State Department of Education. All school-level Teachers of the Year submitted packets outlining education history; professional biographies; community involvement; and philosophies of teaching.
The state-level selection committee will select the Alabama Teacher of the Year at an awards ceremony. The ceremony will be held May 13 at 6 p.m. at the RSA Plaza Terrace in Montgomery.
