Officers arrested a 16-year-old suspect after receiving a report of an armed robbery at the Abbey at Riverchase apartments. The victim was reaching into her car to retrieve an item at around 5 p.m. when a suspect pointed a gun at her and demanded her valuables.
The suspect took cash and an iPhone and fled on foot. A nearby patrol officer located a suspect matching the robber's description at the Citgo on Lorna Road. The victim's property was found on the suspect, along with a black toy handgun. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Hoover City Jail.
After questioning by detectives, it was determined that the same suspect was responsible for a similar robbery that occurred on Saturday at 8 p.m. A Jimmy John's delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint while making a delivery at Riverchase Landing Apartments. A sandwich and cash were stolen from the driver.
Arrests warrants were obtained on Tuesday, charging the suspect with the following:
Roderick Lamont Watts, 16, Hoover
- Two counts of robbery first degree, $30,000 bond each
Watts was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham on April 7.
