Hoover City Schools will host a public forum on the School Board’s ruling to eliminate the school bus system in the fall of 2014. The forum will be held at Spain Park High School’s theatre on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m.
“The Hoover School Board and Superintendent appreciate members of the Hoover community stepping forward to share their thoughts on the plan to discontinue regular education transportation in the 2014-15 school year,” a release said. “With such a wide variety of viewpoints on this issue, it is important that Hoover citizens are well informed of the facts and have an opportunity to ask questions. The Hoover School Board and Superintendent want the benefit of hearing from stakeholders.”
The school system’s Board of Education made the decision to cut the bus system at its July meeting, citing saving $2.5 million annually to redirect into classrooms as it primary reason, according to a release.
Beyond the change in transportation services, Hoover City Schools said it plans to continue to analyze and implement strategies to stop declining financial operating trends, recoup lost capacity, and position the school system for sustainable success.
