Hoover police are investigating a three-vehicle wreck that killed a 61-year-old Birmingham man Sunday afternoon.
The wreck happened at 2:36 p.m., when a 2018 Mercedes GLC300 exiting the southbound ramp of Interstate 459 collided with a 2004 Toyota Camry traveling west on John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover police said.
The Toyota then veered into the eastbound lanes of John Hawkins Parkway, where it collided with a 2004 Volkswagen Passat, police said. Hoover paramedics took the driver of the Passat, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as 61-year-old Tony Emanuel Tarver of Birmingham, to St. Vincent’s East hospital in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead at 4:29 p.m.
A passenger in the Passat was taken to UAB Hospital by an ambulance and is in stable condition, Hoover police said. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was taken to the UAB Medical West freestanding emergency room by private auto. No other injuries were reported.
