Krystle Johnson says a few words at the Hoover Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 9, 2016, after being introduced as the new head girls varsity basketball coach.
The Hoover school board tonight approved the hiring of former Hoover High girls basketball star Krystle Johnson as the Lady Bucs new varsity coach.
Johnson thanked Hoover High Athletics Director Andy Urban for giving her the opportunity to come back to her community and do for Hoover High what the school did for her.
"Hoover’s been a huge part of my life and has made me the woman I am today, and I’m just excited to be back and give back to these young ladies what has been given to me all these years," she said.
A 2001 graduate, Johnson helped lead the Bucs to the 2001 state championship. She was named a USA Today Player to Watch during her junior and senior seasons.
Johnson began her college playing career at UCLA but transferred to Alabama prior to the 2003-2004 school year.
She arrives in Hoover from Huntsville High School, where she served as varsity girls coach. According to her website, Coach KJ Basketball, she was named the Birmingham Tip-Off Club Coach of the Year for the 2014-2015 season.
