By the time the Friday afternoon homecoming pep rally came to a close at Hoover High, students' spirits were running high. Seniors gathered on the floor on the gym to link arms and sing their alma mater and immediately gathered into a frenzied mass to cheer after finishing the final lines. Players hugged their teammates before parting ways, only to meet back on the field that night for a 38-6 victory over Huffman, securing the Bucs the region title and a spot in the playoffs.
Earlier in the week, students enjoy a series of activities in the school's courtyard for homecoming. The Hoover High SGA partnered with fellow school club Team Up for St. Jude to host "Pie Your Teacher in the Face" on Thursday afternoon. Students lined up to donate $1 to throw pies while others dug deeper into their pockets to pay $5 to walk right up to their teachers and cover their face with whipped cream.
In addition to the whipped cream mess in the courtyard, students also lobbed paint-filled balloons at a Huffman decorated board with a homemade slingshot provided to the school by Home Depot. Blue, yellow, orange and red paint flew at the board with increasing amounts of force as students tested the limits of the sling shot while cheering as the paint stained the once white "Beat Huffman" sign.
The school raised $3,828 in total for St. Jude Children's Hospital.
At the half, the Hoover homecoming court took to the field where Caroline Willoughby and Kholbe Coleman-Abrams were announced as Homecoming Queen and King.
