Performances at Moonlight on the Mountain are all about the audience, according to James Harwell.
“It’s not trying to be snobbish or elitist, but there are very few places you can go to just go and listen to a concert,” Harwell said.
Harwell, also president of the Birmingham Realtors Association, said it’s important to have locations for listeners to have the chance to sit and enjoy music. Keith Harrelson, founder of the venue, has designed Moonlight on the Mountain to be a relaxing location where people can focus on the artist in front of them.
“The beauty of Moonlight on the Mountain, and it’s by design, he creates a listening room,” Harwell said. “It’s not a frat house, it’s not a party room … he’ll tell you straight up that if you want to socialize, go outside and socialize.”
Harwell has played the venue several times before and said he enjoys the opportunity to give back to the community. Any money from tickets will go back to the venue, Harwell said.
“I think it’s important we keep the live music going,” Harwell said.
Harwell will perform at Moonlight on the Mountain on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10.
