Douglas Henze, a member of Troop 69 at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills and under the leadership of Scoutmaster Angelo Della Manna, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was honored for his accomplishment during the Eagle Court of Honor in April.
Henze is the son of David and Diana Henze of Hoover. He joined Troop 69 in 2010 after earning his Arrow of Light award in Cub Scout Pack 69. He has earned 26 merit badges, the National Outdoors Leadership Award and has held various leadership positions with Troop 69 including senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, quartermaster and historian.
While in scouting, he was selected by his troop and participated in the Order of the Arrow Ordeal and participated in the high-adventure Sea Base outing.
For his Eagle Scout project, Henze, along with his fellow troop members and friends, built an 18-foot octagonal ball pit, also known as a “GAGA” pit, for the Alabaster YMCA.
Henze is a junior at Spain Park High School where he is a member of the varsity football team, track team and belongs to the Rho Kappa and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Societies. He is also active in the youth program at First Christian Church.
