Dear friends and neighbors,
Every May for the past 15 years, the top baseball teams from the Western and Eastern Divisions have met at the Hoover Met to determine the champions of the Southeastern Conference. The games draw over 125,000 fans to Hoover over the weeklong competition. The 2013 SEC Baseball Tournament will be played during the week of May 21-26. For ticket information, visit secdigitalnetwork.com or call 978-2822.
Also, another fun event coming to the Hoover Met is the Hot Rod Power Tour on June 5. This promises to be a fun-filled day, so come see car enthusiasts from all over the world show off their custom car creations. This is a free event, and you’ll be sorry if you miss it!
I want to encourage you over the summer to take a little free time and be sure to visit one of our many parks. The city has added over 400 acres of green space over the past five years including Veterans Park, Loch Haven Dog Park, Moss Rock Preserve and Inverness Nature Park and Trails, which is home to a 1.8-mile walking trail and disc golf course. Another jewel in Hoover is the beautiful Aldridge Gardens, which is located on Lorna Road. This is a gorgeous and serene place that is free to visit and a great place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon picnic.
If you haven’t visited one or all of these parks, make that one of your goals for the summer. If you need directions or additional information about any of these parks, visit our website, hooveral.org or call 444-7500.
Finally, congratulations to all the upcoming high school graduates and college graduates in Hoover! May is a very exciting time in the lives of our students in Hoover as they embark on getting ready for their next step in life, whether it is college or starting their careers.
Please remember that the city leaders and employees are here for you and will continue to try to exceed your expectations in every way with our quality of services in Hoover. Please contact our office if we can be of assistance to you.
Sincerely,
Gary Ivey
Mayor
