While more than half of Latinas have experienced rape and other forms of sexual violence in their lifetime, they are less likely to report it than non-Latina women (NISVS 2010).
In a final installment of a series of Sexual Assault Awareness Month events, SafeHouse of Shelby County will hold a sexual and domestic violence awareness event at La Dolce Vita in Hoover at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30.
The program will focus on sexual and domestic violence in our Latino community, and provide information about assistance available to victims from community organizations such as SafeHouse and the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama.
La Dolce Vita will provide free appetizers and drink specials for attendees. Representatives from White House Black Market, L’Bel skin care and Sara Blaine of Willow House jewelry will be on site with special offers and tips for attendees.
This event is open to the public, women and men, and is free to attend. For more information, contact Jennifer Chappell at jenniferc@safehouse.org.
