The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce on July 21 will present its annual Freedom Award during the chamber’s monthly luncheon.
The award, sponsored by Regions, was started in 2003 with the intention of recognizing some of Hoover’s outstanding public servants who have dedicated themselves to the ideals of freedom.
Former winners include Art Headley, Bob Mosca, Bill Natter, John O’Malley, A. C. Roper, retired Gen. Robert Lott, Albert Awtrey, Hollis Hayes, Hoover police Lt. Trey Bass, retired Rear Adm. Jack Natter, Dan Mikos, Lt. Col. Damon Holditch and last year’s winner, former Hoover firefighter Michael Thorin.
Nominees should be community role models who support local, state or federal government, promote the ideals of freedom, support the U.S. military and either live or work in Hoover.
The 2016 winner is scheduled to be announced at the July 21 chamber luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham — The Wynfrey Hotel.
Networking begins at 11:15 a.m., and the program starts at noon. The luncheon costs $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members or those without reservations (if space is available).
