When Vivian Mora immigrated to the U.S. from Brazil, everything about insurance was unknown to her. “It was a learning curve,” Mora said.
For the past 10 years, Mora has helped others in the Hoover area navigate and understand insurance and financial services as a State Farm agent.
“I’m passionate about it and have been enjoying every minute of it,” she said.
Mora was working with her husband, running a Hispanic marketing firm, when a State Farm recruiter approached her and told Mora he thought she might be a good fit as an agent. Thrilled with the challenge, Mora decided to look more into the opportunity.
She started by servicing clients from another agent who had retired, but soon she started building new business of her own.
While many of her customers are lifelong Alabama residents, Mora said roughly half of her clientele are immigrants from Latin America, Asia and Africa, who now live in Hoover.
“We love that diversity,” Mora said. “We learn from our customers different cultures and backgrounds every day.”
Mora enjoys being the person to introduce them to how insurance works for the first time, answering many of the same questions she once had.
She has a team of eight employees in a recently remodeled office at 3253 Lorna Road, where customers are encouraged to stop by at any time. Mora said her staff works hard at “educating customers and trying to make customers’ lives easier” and offers services in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
“We are a welcoming office,” she said. “We really take into consideration what customers are going through personally, what their budget is and what their expectations are.”
Through State Farm, Mora offers home, automotive, property, business, life and disability insurance policies. They also provide savings, auto and home financing services becoming a “one-stop shop for customer’s financial needs” Mora said.
As a small business owner herself, Mora learned early on the importance of business liability insurance to protect growing businesses operations and exposures.
Her team specializes in Small Business Owners insurance to assist the growing number of entrepreneurs in her book of business and in the local community. They assist small business owners with the protection needed to successfully operate.
“It’s rewarding to sit down with customers and explain the risks they currently have and help them plan for the future of their families and businesses.”
Mora also shares that one of the keys to her office’s success has been her referral program and it is why she is excited with the new State Farm Community Offers Program and making it available to local business owners. It is a feature on the mobile app where local merchants share personalized offers with State Farm customers at no cost.
“We are honored to be a small business supporting other small businesses,” Mora said. “Community Offers is a great way for everyone to grow together.”
