When you were a kid, did you dread the days when your parents told you it was time to go to the dentist?
At Indian Springs Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Rosalynn Crawford-McKendall has the opposite problem: most children don’t want to go home after their visit is over.
“We provide a child-friendly environment,” Dr. Crawford-McKendall said. “The children enjoy watching their favorite cartoons.”
The most exciting part of the visit for every child is that they get a prize at the end. Dr. Crawford-McKendall recalls one time a 3-year-old patient insisted on being seen before his other three siblings — he wanted to be the first to receive his prize.
“His mother said he was excited all week about visiting his dentist,” Dr. Crawford-McKendall said.
Dr. Crawford-McKendall loved going to the dentist as a child. Having such positive experiences as a child motivated her to pursue a career in dentistry.
She is a native of Greene County, Alabama, and she graduated magna cum laude from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, with a degree in Biology. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University. She also received general practice residency certification from Bronx Lebanon Hospital and her certification in pediatric dentistry from NYU as well. She is Board-Certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She has practiced dentistry since 1998.
“The time and dedication required to achieve this title demonstrates my focus on always providing the absolute best care for patients and their families,” she said. “My experience includes private practice, teaching and mentoring at both NYU and LSU, and work in a wide variety of circumstances, including a mobile dental unit that provided care to at-risk children in New York City.”
Dr. Crawford-McKendall is passionate about educating children on good oral hygiene that can set the foundation for a lifetime.
“I also love working with children and young adults,” she said. “The creativity of the children is amazing. The children’s imaginations are boundless. I enjoy waking up every morning and wondering what interesting adventures we will have.”
At Indian Springs Pediatric Dentistry, the goal is not only to provide excellent dentistry for children but to be a family-oriented business that provides resources for family members as well.
The practice offers Friday as well as Saturday hours to help parents who are unable to take off work for appointments. The office also has the ability to take children to Children’s of Alabama Hospital for care if they are unable to be treated in an office setting.
In February, the office will celebrate its eighth anniversary.
“It’s truly an honor to serve in this industry that was historically male-dominated and possibly to be a role model for kids and young girls.”
Did you know? Children should establish a dental home by their first birthday or within 6 months of the appearance of their first tooth.
