Walmart Neighborhood Market will open Aug. 14 at 7:30 a.m.
The new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Lorna Road will open on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
The store, approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter, is located at 3320 Lorna Road and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
“The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will help to revitalize this shopping area and provide an important area of Hoover with shopping opportunities that residents haven’t had in a few years,” said Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Bill Powell. “In addition, Walmart will be providing grants to our local charities and service organizations for years to come. On behalf of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, we welcome this Walmart Neighborhood Market to the City of Hoover.”
The Neighborhood Market format offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store features prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, self-serve deli, a bakery, beer and wine.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration, to be held at 7:30 a.m. on opening day, will include presentations of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.
The new store employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 250 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.
Store manager Mike Chandler began his Walmart career in 2001 as a food co-manager at a store in Bessemer. He has over 25 years of retail grocery experience.
“With our smaller format, our customers will be able to find what they need quickly and move along their way,” said Chandler. “I hope everyone comes out on grand-opening day to see all the great things we will have going on.”
On Saturday, Aug. 17, the store’s Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Chandler and enjoy family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last. The celebration lasts from noon to 3 p.m.
