The new sign replaces one that was over 30 years old. Green Valley Drugs is the oldest pharmacy in the city.
Green Valley Drugs has been serving Hoover's residents for around 50 years with its combination of a pharmacy and diner. The red letters above the shop in the Hoover Court Town Center have been there nearly as long.
Owner Bill Box, whose father started the pharmacy, said the original sign was at least 30 years old.
But today, a new LED sign was installed, reading "Green Valley Drugs Health Mart Pharmacy." The change was needed in part because of the sign's age, but also because Green Valley is reducing its square footage. A wall will be constructed soon to create space for a new tenant in the shopping mall.
Box said that despite the new sign, Green Valley Drugs has not changed hands. The diner remains open for breakfast and lunch.
"It's still Green Valley Drugs. It's still independently owned," he said.
