Three more people qualify to run for Hoover City Council on last day
Three more people qualified to run for Hoover City Council seats on the last day of qualifying today, giving candidates in all seven council seats opposition.
- Arnold Singer, a retired principal technical officer for Edison, N.J., and chairman of the board for The ARC of Shelby County group that helps people with developmental disabilities, qualified to run for Council Place 3 against John Lyda.
- Joel Smith, the general manager for the Hendrick Hoover Auto Mall and first vice president for the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, qualified to run against Michael Holt and Mike Shaw in Council Place 4. Councilman Jack Natter, who now holds that seat, is not seeking re-election.
- Dan Ellis, a regional sales director for Total Administrative Services Corp. and a former president of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, qualified to run against Derrick Murphy in Council Place 5. Council President Jack Wright, who now holds that seat, also is not seeking re-election.
Earlier today, Steve McClinton, a retirement planner with Security Financial Advisors who has served as president of the Hoover City Schools Foundation the past two years, qualified to run for mayor against Gary Ivey and Frank Brocato.
