Tuesday, May 24, is the 2022 primary election day for the Democratic and Republican parties in Alabama, and voters go to the polls to help determine their party's candidates for the Nov. 8 general election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Ballots for voters in Hoover will include candidates for state and Jefferson and Shelby county offices, depending on the county in which you live. Ballots also will differ based on the legislative district in which you live.
The Hoover Sun has previewed six legislative races that include parts of Hoover. Follow these links to see who is running and read about their beliefs:
- Alabama Senate District 15 (includes parts of eastern Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Pelham, Chelsea, Trussville, Leeds, Talladega and Childersburg)
- Alabama House District 15 (includes parts of western Hoover and Bessemer, muich of Helena and communities such as McCalla and Tannehill)
- Alabama House District 45 (includes parts of north Shelby County, eastern Jefferson County and southwest St. Clair County, including parts of Greystone, Chelsea, Highland Lakes, Leeds, Mt Laurel and Shoal Creek)
- Alabama House District 47 (includes parts of Hoover and Vestavia Hills)
- Alabama House District 48 (includes parts of Greystone, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook and north Shelby County)
- Alabama House District 56 (includes Ross Bridge and part of the Lake Cyrus community in Hoover, as well as most of Bessemer, Brighton, Lipscomb and the Oxmoor Valley and Shannon communities)

Voters who normally vote at the Finley Center and Hoover Metropolitan Stadium will vote at the Hunter Street Baptist Church Student Center due to the SEC Baseball Tournament.
