Hoover police have released photos of two men who are wanted for questioning in relation to Tuesday’s fatal shooting in the Lake Cyrus neighborhood.
The surveillance video was taken about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday after the suspects left the Tuscaloosa area and just before they returned to the Bessemer/Hoover area, according to police.
Around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jonathan Michael “Mike” Gilotti, a 33-year-old husband, father and Iraq war veteran, was leaving for the gym when he was shot and killed outside his Lake Cyrus home. That morning, there were at least 10 car break-ins reported on Gilotti’s street, Park Side Circle, and police have been investigating a connection between the car burglaries and Gilotti’s killing.
One of the men is wearing a dark-colored hoodie that says “FLY” on the front, with “FIRST LOVE YOURSELF” in smaller letters underneath. Police believe he is a 19-year-old who attended Bessemer City High School. He is known to frequent the McCalla/Tannehill area as well as Arlington Avenue and Roosevelt Park areas in Bessemer.
The second individual is wearing a long-sleeved shirt with an unknown logo on the front and back as well as a baseball cap with an unknown logo on the front and side. He is a known associate of the suspect in the “FLY” shirt, according to police, and also has been seen in the Bessemer area.
Capt. Gregg Rector said police have received several calls and information, including a few names that have been brought up.
“We feel like we’re a lot closer to finding a resolution to this case than we were three days ago,” Rector said.
The other two suspects seen leaving a known suspect vehicle on Tuesday were likely in vehicles outside of the store where the surveillance footage was taken, according to police. All four men are wanted for questioning in connection with Gilotti’s killing.
Anyone with information about the case or the identity of the suspects can call Sgt. Keith Czeskleba at 739-6795 or Hoover police at 822-5300.
“This is a very high-priority case,” Rector said. “We’ve got a wonderful family man, decorated war veteran, hard-working guy, and for no apparent reason he gets gunned down in front of his house. Just horrible, tragic, senseless, and we’re going to find the people who did it, and we’re going to hold them accountable.”
