SPHS Coach Lindsey accepts job at AU

For the second time in his career Coach Chip Lindsey is leaving Hoover, only this time, it’s for much greener pastures.

Plains, really.

Lindsey, head football coach at Spain Park High School, accepted a position this month to work with the Auburn Tigers football program in an off-the-field support role. He announced the decision to his team earlier this month, according to a release from Spain Park Athletic Director Patrick Kellogg.

“The Spain Park family is very excited and very happy for Coach Lindsey as this opportunity gives him the chance to work and coach at a major division I college football program,” Kellogg said.

Lindsey was head coach for the Jaguars for two seasons, leading the team to its first 6A Region championship in 2012. Prior to that, he was quarterbacks coach at Troy University. He also served as offensive coordinator for the Hoover High Buccaneers in 2007, taking the team to a 10-2 record and advancing to the third round of the State Playoffs.

“Coach Lindsey is a great person, family man, mentor to student athletes and, most importantly, a great educator,” Kellogg said. “He will be greatly missed.

“Our goal now is to find a head football coach that embodies the same caring and relational persona that Coach Lindsey grew at this football program.”

Lindsey was contacted for comment but did not reply before deadline.
