Spain Park wrestling competes in pair of tournaments

Over the weekend, the Spain Park junior varsity and varsity wrestling teams competed in a pair of tournaments.

On Friday, the junior varsity squad participated in the Hewitt-Trussville Blalock JV Invitational. The Jags produced five medalists, including 220-pound champion Ryan Campbell, who won with three pins. 

Jack Rivers also placed first for Spain Park in the 106-pound division, as he won both of his matches with pins. Gavin Pudlick (113 pounds) and Harry Shaull (126 pounds) each won their divisions with a pin and a major decision. Pudlick defeated teammate Caelan March in the first place match.

Emmanuel Thuo and Cam Young placed fourth.

On Saturday, the Jags traveled to the Alexandria Valley Club Invitational Tournament, and they improved upon Friday's results with seven medalists.

Rivers was the lone champion for Spain Park, as he won the 106-pound division with a pin and a major decision in the first place match. Pudlick and Jacob Sharpe each placed second in the 113- and 152-pound divisions, respectively. Other medalists included Thuo, Shaull, Jake Harrison, Ashton Nichols, and Campbell.
