The Spain Park Jaguars close the regular season on Friday at Jaguar Stadium with Bessemer City.

The Jaguars (8-1) are the Class 7A, Region 3 champions. They've earned the No. 1 seed for round one of the playoffs, but they won't know their opponent until Class 7A, Region 4 shakes out. Depending on Friday's results, the Jags could host either Hazel Green, Buckhorn or Gadsden City.

The Jaguars' only loss this season was a triple-overtime loss to Austin in the first game of the season. They've reeled off eight straight wins, including their first on-the-field win over Hoover.

Friday, the Jags will rely again on their stout defense, which has posted four shutouts, a strong running game and outstanding special teams play.

Running backs Larry Wooden and Wade Streeter combined for 167 rushing yards last week against Mountain Brook.

Impressively, Spain Park limited opponents to 59 total points throughout the entirety of region play, giving up an average of 8.4 points per game.

Bessemer City (6-3) will open play next week in the Class 6A playoffs. They were the fourth seed in their region.

The Jags won last year’s meeting 30-7 in the only game ever played between the two schools.
