Simmons coach named Metro Coach of the Year

Simmons seventh grade football coach Keyon Williams was chosen as this year’s Metro Coach of the Year. This is a great honor because the 12 coaches that vote for this award are peers and competitors of Coach Williams, which proves that his hard work, on and off the field, has been recognized by the toughest of judges. They see him for who he really is and respect him immensely.

This year, Coach Williams and his seventh grade team went 7-1.

“There were a lot of close games and this league is very competitive, but we beat both of our Hoover rivals, Berry and Bumpus, which hasn’t happened since 2005. I am so proud of these guys,” he said.

Coach Williams feels that being involved in sports enables his players to learn to work as a team and what accountability really means, which are two valuable skills that will translate easily into the workplace later in life.  

 “The best part is having the opportunity to mold and develop young men and women to be better student athletes on and off the field,” he said. “It is a privilege to see them grow and develop. Knowing that you played a small role in their lives is an honor.”
