Pair of local golfers win at Birmingham Junior Challenge

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Birmingham Junior Challenge at the Timberline Golf Club in Calera on Feb. 6-7, and produced two local winners.

Thomas Luther, a senior at Spain Park High School, won the boys 16-18 division after finishing two under par for the weekend. Luther shot a 71 both days, including an eagle on the first day, and won by ten strokes.

Carson McKie of Hoover won the girls 14-18 division, as she scored a 164 over the two days. She scored 83 on Saturday, with a birdie, and shot an 81 on Sunday to win the event by nine strokes.

The winners in all five age brackets earned an automatic invite to the Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4, 2016.
