Jaguars continue championship quest
Spain Park continues on its journey toward its first state championship when the Jaguars host James Clemens of Madison.
The Jaguars (10-1) easily dispatched Hazel Green 31-7 in round one of the AHSAA 7A playoffs, but the visitors from Madison should prove to be a tough test. The Jets (10-1) blanked Hewitt-Trussville 22-0 last Thursday and have had an extra day to get ready. Their only loss was to Madison schools rival Bob Jones 27-24 in the second week of the season and have won nine straight. They’ve outscored their opponents 376 to 91. The Jaguars have been almost as stingy on defense, allowing just 110 points and posting four shutouts. The Jags have scored 270 points.
If Spain Park wins, it will face a familiar foe – the winner of the Vestavia Hills-Hoover game. That game would also be at Jaguar Stadium, since Spain Park was the Region 3 champion.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.
