The Spain Park High School volleyball team moved up Thursday's game time one hour and 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, and nearly waited too long to stage a comeback in the season opener.

John Carroll visited the Jags, and took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-23.

But the Jags did not lay down, choosing to rally and make the most of what was left. They won each of the next three sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-11 in the fifth and decisive set.

Marlee Johnson led the way for Spain Park with 30 kills and nine digs on the night. Sha'Kevia Hogan pitched in 20 kills along with 12 digs. Ellie Norton contributed 54 assists in the match.

The Jags will take part in the Juanita Boddie Tournament at Hoover High School this weekend.
