Bucs host Tennessee team, season ends for Jags, Eagles

The top-ranked Hoover Buccaneers improved to 7-2 overall and closed out an unbeaten region season at 7-0 by beating Hewitt-Trussville 38-24, spooling the Huskies' first game at Husky Stadium in Trussville. It was the Bucs' 35th straight win over in-state opponents. Marcus Webb rushed for 182 yards on 25 carries and Bradrick Shaw added 124 yards on 21 carries. The Bucs broke a 24-24 tie heading into the fourth quarter to pull out the win. The Bucs close the regular season Friday with another game against an out-of-state powerhouse, unbeaten Blackman (9-0) of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at the Hoover Met. My 68 will televise the game.

Spain Park closes its football season on Thursday night at 7 at Bessemer City. The Jaguars (5-4, 3-4 Class 7A, Region 3) beat Mountain Brook last week but lost out on a playoff berth via the tie- breaking rules. 

Shades Mountain Christian (1-8) hosts Spring Garden on Friday at 7 p.m. in the season-finale.
