HHS football team to be honored for championship title

The Hoover High football team will be honored Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. with the Class 7A State Championship presentation and MaxPreps Tour Trophy presentation in the Competition Gym.

The Hoover Bucs (21-6) defeated Fairfield 60-48 at Fairfield on Tuesday night. Austin Cherry scored 10 of his 17 points in the opening quarter. Maurice Brown added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Leonard Wood chipped in 10 points. The Bucs will host Wenonah on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Hoover Lady Bucs (20-6) cruised past host Fairfield 67-17. Jailyn Maddox scored 16 points and Jada Smith added 13 points, five assists and six steals as the Lady Bucs forced 30 turnovers. They will host Wenonah on Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 2 Spain Park (23-4) defeated visiting Oak Mountain 69-41 on Tuesday. Jamal Johnson scored 23 points and Austin Wiley added 18 in the win The Jags will host Huffman on Friday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Spain Park Lady Jaguars (22-8) knocked off Oak Mountain 42-29 on Tuesday at Spain Park. Victoria Baldwin led Spain Park with 12 points. Keyasha Gordon and Skyla Knight each scored 10 points. The Lady Jags host Huffman on Friday at 6 p.m.

Shades Mountain Christian's boys won their seventh straight game, beating Indian Springs 59-29. Jaylin Kemp scored 17 points and Brock Belcher added 11 for the Eagles (14-8). Harrison Boozer had six points, 10 rebounds and blocked six shots. The Eagles will host Isabella on Thursday.

The Hoover wrestling team will host Vestavia Hills on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
