Bucs to play Gadsden City in semifinals

The Hoover Buccaneers (10-2) host Gadsden City (10-2) Friday at 7 p.m. at the Hoover Met in the semifinals of the Class 7A state football playoffs. Admission is $8. Hoover advanced by routing Tuscaloosa County 42-7, the second time the Bucs have beaten the Wildcats this season. Gadsden City knocked off Oak Mountain 45-28. The winner of this game gets a week off before the 7A championship game on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at Auburn University's Jordan-Hare Stadium. The other semifinalists are Prattville and Foley.

Several Hoover High students will be signing with colleges today (Wednesday). Caleb Gilbert is signing a baseball scholarship with LSU; Mary Catherine Nichols is signing a softball scholarship with the University of South Alabama; Dylan Smith is signing a basketball scholarship with the University of Texas-Pan American; Jada Smith is signing a basketball scholarship with Union University; Abby Solomon is signing a softball scholarship with Spring Hill College. The ceremony will be held in the school's cafeteria at 2:45 p.m.

Hoover's boys and girls basketball teams will host Huffman on Thursday. The girls tip at 6 with the boys game at 7:30. The boys are coming off a thrilling 58-57 win at Clay-Chalkville on Dylan Smith's 3-pointer at the buzzer. The girls lost to Clay 53-45, suffering their first loss of the season.

Spain Park's boys and girls basketball teams will host Wetumpka on Friday. The girls play at 6 with the boys game at 7:30.
