Bucs knock off Fairfield in double overtime

Hoover overcame a sluggish start to fight back and force overtime against Fairfield on Tuesday night, a game the Bucs would eventually win in double overtime, 70-68.

The Bucs took a half to get going, coming off a tough overtime loss to Oak Mountain. They trailed 29-16 at the break.

A breakout fourth quarter was enough to tie the game and send it to the extra periods, as Hoover outscored Fairfield 24-16 in the final frame. Each team scored ten points in the first overtime, and Hoover won the second, 6-4.

Kevy Eason led Hoover (13-13) with 30 points, 12 of those coming after regulation. He nailed 11 of the 15 free throws he attempted. Wes Banks scored 12 points for the Bucs.

Detrich Boone scored 26 points to lead Fairfield.

The Lady Bucs had an easier time with Fairfield, winning 44-33. Kendra Langham led Hoover with 12 points, followed by eight points from Jailyn Maddox.

Hoover stifled Fairfield in the third quarter, holding the Tigers to just two points.

The wins over Fairfield set up a rivalry clash with Spain Park on Friday night at Hoover. The girls game tips at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.
