After a week of play, Hoover and Spain Park each sit at 1-0, and as a result, are third and fourth, respectively, in the ASWA High School Football Poll.

The Bucs received a first-place vote after knocking off then-No. 4 Central-Phenix City last Friday, 23-7 in the Champions Challenge. Hoover endured a 51-minute lightning delay, but a pair of second-half interceptions and three Barret Pickering field goals were enough to put the Red Devils away.

Spain Park jumped up a spot thanks to Central-Phenix City losing, and now rests at No. 4. The Jags pulled off a hard-fought victory over Gadsden City, 21-17, in the season opener. Damarius Farmer came away with the game-sealing interception to seal the win for the Jags.

Hoover was also ranked third in the preseason poll, the first time since 2000 that the Bucs were not a top two preseason team.

The Bucs travel to Allen, Texas, this week for the Tom Landry Classic. Spain Park hosts Muscle Shoals. Both games are set for 7 p.m. kickoffs on Friday.
