Spain Park edged Vestavia Hills 14-13 on Friday thanks to two blocked kicks in the fourth quarter by defensive back Michael Jackson. Jackson blocked a field goal with the Jags leading 14-7 and then swatted away an extra point that would have tied the game. The Jags had built a 14-0 halftime lead on Mason Duke’s 1-yard TD run and a 14-yard scamper by Wade Streeter, who finished with 189 yards on 33 carries. The Jaguars (4-3, 2-3 Class 7A, Region 3) now sit in a four-way tie for fourth place, and the final playoff berth, in the region. The Jags host Oak Mountain on Friday at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night.

Shades Mountain Christian stunned Class 1A No. 4 Ragland for a half, leading 7-6. But Ragland dominated the second half to pull away to a 40-13 win Friday. Harrison Boozer connected with Will Rowell for an 18-yard TD and Cody Pausic’s PAT put the Eagles up at the half. But Ragland (7-0, 5-0) proved too much in the second half. Billy Parker connected with Boozer for a 44-yard scoring pass on the game’s final play. SMC dropped to 1-6, 0-5 in Class 1A, Region 5. The Eagles travel to face Appalachian (0-7, 0-5) in a region game Friday at 7.
