Hoover whips Hueytown 35-0

The Hoover Bucs scored in the game’s first minute. The rest of the game wasn’t much different.

The Hoover Bucs followed their historic win over Colquitt of Georgia last week with a thrashing of the Hueytown Gophers, 35-0.

The out-manned Hueytown coaches pulled out the proverbial stops to remain competitive.  The Gophers began the game by recovering its onside kick, only to have the result negated by a penalty. A few seconds later, Hoover scored its first touchdown and the rout was on.

The Gopher offense also tried a variety of quick hitting screen plays and short passes to circumvent the bigger, stronger Bucs defensive line. However, the team speed of Hoover outmatched the creative strategy of the coaches.

Bucs quarterback Jack Hutcheson passed for two touchdowns, totaling 130 yards and completing nine out of 20 attempts.  Leonard Wood turned in a devastating performance  as a receiver, with 65 yards and a touchdown on only two receptions.  Hutcheson also completed a touchdown pass to Kris Parker. Alex Elam added 39 yards on three receptions.

Bradrick Shaw led the Hoover rushing attack with 57 yards and a touchdown. Kyler Jackson added 54 yards on the ground.

Next week, Hoover heads to Jackson-Olin for a 7 p.m. game. The Mustangs, 1-1, lost this week to Tuscaloosa County 41-17.
