Riverchase Elementary celebrates garden growth

Riverchase Elementary School hosted a ribbon cutting for its garden on Friday.

The ribbon cutting celebrated the changes in the garden including an arbor, umbrella stands and pavers for a walkway. Local Eagle Scout Woody Shin helped build these has his Eagle project.

“I really wanted to do [my Eagle project] at Riverchase because six years of my life, they’ve just grown me and encouraged me in every way possible, so I just wanted to give back. It’s been my pleasure, really.”

The Hoover Beautification Board, which provided Riverchase with a grant for the garden, also attended the ribbon cutting. Lori Salter-Schommer, public information officer for the City of Hoover, said she was proud to see the success of the garden project.

“What a great day in the City of Hoover,” she said. “We have been working on this project for quite some time, and the Hoover Beautification Board made some funding available for this to come to fruition and so this is a great day today to kick it off and have our ribbon cutting.”
