Hoover school board to interview 2 finalists for chief financial officer Monday

by

The Hoover school board on Monday is scheduled to interview two finalists to potentially replace Cathy Antee as Hoover’s chief school finance officer.

The finalists are Sheila Jones, the chief school finance officer for Jefferson County schools, and Arthur Watts Jr., the former chief school finance officer for Birmingham City Schools who resigned in July of last year after 13 years in that job.

The public interviews are set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Farr Administration Building at 2810 Metropolitan Way. The agenda for the meeting allows for an executive session after the interviews (if necessary) and then a vote to choose Hoover’s next chief school finance officer.

Antee in March of last year sent a letter to former school board President Donna Frazier, asking that her contract not be extended past this summer, and the school board voted to let her contract expire in June of this year.

The vacancy was posted on the websites for Hoover City Schools and the Alabama Association of School Business Officials, and Hoover schools Superintendent Kathy Murphy helped narrow the field of applicants down to two, school board President Derrick Murphy said.

The school board hires the chief school finance officer, but whoever fills the position will work closely with the superintendent.
