Hoover High School student recognized with national award

Alex Lalisan has received the DAR Good Citizen Award for 2012-2013 at Hoover High School. The Daughters of the American Revolution awards the national honor annually to outstanding seniors on the basis of their dependability, leadership, service and patriotism. Lalisan has shown his commitment to such qualities by his many activities both in and out of school.  

The nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Demosthenes Lalisan, Alex Lalisan has a GPA of 4.2 and has been inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and is a National Merit Commended Scholar. He has been awarded Student of the Month each year of high school and has received other awards. This year he was a nominee for Homecoming King and was voted Best All Around among senior class men.

Lalisan serves as president of the Hoover Ambassadors, chaplain of the Student Government Association, vice-president of the Hoover Grade Level Choir and co-president of the Chamber Choir. He is also a member of the men’s a cappella group “Ten Bucs Worth” at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and Shades Mountain’s New Wind church choir and ensemble.  

Lalisan said he plans to attend Vanderbilt University to major in communication and human organizational development, after which he hopes to pursue a career as a journalist.
