HCS Law Academy earns distinction in New York City competition

The Spain Park High School Law Academy had an impressive showing in the 2014 Empire Mock Trial World Championship in New York City. The academy returned home with the honors of “Outstanding Witness” (Olivia Pride) and “Outstanding Attorney” (Christina McLaughlin). Pride, a freshman, had an emotional portrayal of a grieving widow. McLaughlin, a senior and Law Academy team captain, was previously recognized as “Outstanding Witness” at the National High School Championship in May 2014.

The Law Academy competed against forty teams, including thirteen fellow state champions and six national champions. This included teams from South Korea, Hong Kong, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.

”All 14 students were impressive in the courtroom,” Law Academy co-director Libby Day said.  “These students endured a grueling schedule to accomplish a lot. We are very proud of them.”

Day co-directs the Spain Park High School Law Academy with Craig Thompson.
