The Hoover City Schools Foundation raised more than $15,000 at its Denim and Dining event at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium Saturday night.

“It really exceeded our expectations,” said Janet Turner, the foundation's executive director. “We had about 175 people there, so for our first time, it was a home run.”

The foundation plans to hold the fundraiser annually, Turner said. There were plenty of groups and individuals to thank for the event’s success, she said, including sponsors, community activists and students who helped promote the event.

“We have 61 kids at the high schools who help with our marketing, and I don’t think we could have done it without them,” Turner said. “They were there to help both physically and to help spread the word on social media.”

The event included drinks, dinner and a silent auction. The foundation also welcomed two new board members, Joe Smith and Susanne Russell, during the event.
