HCS names 2013 Employee of the Year

Charles Crowder of Hoover City Schools’ Crossroads School has been named the 2013 HCS Employee of the Year. The announcement came at the November Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, sponsored by Cadence Bank.

Crowder, an instructional support aide, has been with the system since 2000. He worked at both Hoover and Spain Park high schools before coming to Crossroads School. At Crossroads, he works with teachers to identify students who need extra help in key subject areas like math and English  He is a native of Hoover and graduated from W.A. Berry High School and UAB.

Crowder was chosen from a group of nominees across the district that included two finalists, Nell Skelton (aide at Trace Crossings Elementary) and Jerome Burkes (custodian at Simmons Middle School).  Burkes and Skelton both were honored at the Employee of the Year ceremony and were joined by friends, family and supervisors. 

The HCS Employee of the Year awards program also included an address by HCS Superintendent Andy Craig.
