Deer Valley Elementary School hosts round table

On Thursday, May 29 a round table discussion was held at Deer Valley Elementary School. Hoover City Schools Superintendent Andy Craig spoke to parents about facts concerning the budget shortfall at the district level.

Craig presented Hoover City Schools budget numbers based on a five year projection. He indicated that the main revenue drivers for the school system are property tax and transportation fees.

Parents voiced concerns about budget cuts, rezoning issues and specific to Deer Valley, library aid cuts. Craig assured parents that a presentation would soon be made available on rezoning efforts.

Additionally, Craig discussed transportation fees. He indicated that he would like to establish a system where only those who elect to use the service are charged a fee and students are only charged when they actually ride the bus.

“We want to do it right and we want to do it well,” Craig said.
