Veterans Day Patriotic Tribute set for Nov. 6

The Alabama Veterans Memorial Foundation is hosting its annual Veterans Day Patriotic Tribute on Nov. 6, 1-4:30 p.m. at Alabama Veterans Memorial Park.

Veterans and their supporters are invited to partake in the patriotic and educational activities.

From 1-3 p.m. the Faces of the Price of Freedom Exhibit, presented by the Blue Star Salute Foundation, will be open for viewing near the entrance to the Memorial Trail.

The Hoover High School Jazz Band will perform at 1 p.m.

At 1:45 p.m. in Memorial Plaza, the Patriotic Program featuring this year’s speaker Tony Petelos will honor all veterans. Petelos is county manager for Jefferson County.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham ROTC will present the colors during the program, and Military Officers Association of America Veteran of the Year 2016, retired Lt. Col. Charlie Marvin, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Homewood Middle School Choir will perform patriotic music.

At 3 p.m. in the Flag Plaza, loved ones of veterans will dedicate engraved pavers in the StepStone Ceremony.

Throughout the day, guests are encouraged to view the Regiment of Columns honoring Alabama veterans through artwork, stories, letters and metal reliefs depicting the state’s 24 Medal of Honor recipients. The Hall of Honor will also be open, displaying the names of more than 11,000 Alabamians who died for their country over the past century.

Admission to this outdoor event is free, and golf cart transportation is available for visitors in need of assistance. Seating is provided.

The Alabama Veterans Memorial Park is located at 100 Overton Access Road.
