Veterans Park saw its fair share of four-legged runners this Saturday. At the eighth annual Paws for the Cause 5K and fun run, dog owners took advantage of the good weather and a chance to exercise with their pet.

The event, which benefits the Shelby Humane Society, saw a crowd of close to 200 this year. Along with the 5K and fun run, there was face painting for kids, as well as dogs for people to adopt. A post on the Best Friends of Shelby Humane Society Facebook page thanked community members for coming out to the event.

"SHS could not continue helping all the furry friends in our area without all of your support," the post read. "Thank you to all of the volunteers, workers at events, the staff at SHS and the community."
