Jack Natter changes mind, will not seek re-election to Hoover Council Place 4
Hoover Councilman Jack Natter this morning said he has changed his mind and will not seek another term on the Hoover City Council.
Natter this morning submitted a letter to the mayor and city clerk, withdrawing his candidacy for Council Place 4. That leaves Russet Woods resident Michael Holt and Loch Ridge resident Mike Shaw in the race for Place 4, but others could still qualify to run through Tuesday, July 19.
Natter, a retired Navy admiral who now works as an attorney, said his decision to withdraw from the race was not easy.
From a selfish standpoint, he would enjoy the challenge of seeking and serving another four-year term, but he has given 43 years of service to his country and city and decided it’s time to focus more on his family, he said.
Natter, who turns 77 next month, said he has family spread from Tennessee to California and Africa.
“It’s just time to spend some time with my wife and my family,” he said.
Natter was first appointed to the Hoover City Council in October 2011 to serve out the final year of Gary Ivey’s term when Ivey was appointed mayor. He then won a full four-year term without opposition in the 2012 city election.
