Hotelier Jason DeLuca to seek Hoover City Council Place 6

Green Valley resident and Hoover hotelier Jason DeLuca today announced his intention to seek Place 6 on the Hoover City Council — a spot held by longtime Councilman Brian Skelton until he died on July 2.

DeLuca first announced he was running for a seat on the council in February but did not declare which place he would seek. Because Hoover is not divided into council districts, each council member represents the entire city, and any resident can run for any of the seven places on the council regardless of where they live.

DeLuca said he chose to run for Place 6 on the council because he knew Skelton had indicated he was undecided about whether he would seek re-election this year. He made the decision to go after Place 6 before he knew Skelton had suffered a stroke on June 23, he said. Skelton died on July 2. 

DeLuca said his decision to run for Place 6 was not about what Skelton has done or not done as a councilman. He is more focused on what he can bring to the table as a new representative, he said.

DeLuca, general manager for the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Inverness, said his business experience, including dealing with budgets and capital projects, helps make him a good candidate for the City Council. He has lived in Hoover since May of last year.

Ross Bridge resident Casey Middlebrooks also is seeking Hoover Council Place 6. Middlebrooks declared his intention to seek Place 6 in late February. Learn more about Middlebrooks here.

See the list of all announced candidates for Hoover mayor and City Council here. The city election is Aug. 23. The two-week qualifying period begins July 5 and runs through July 19.
