Hoover Senior Center to celebrate St. Patty’s

The City of Hoover Senior Center will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day event – the “St. Patty’s Day Shindig” – Thurs., March 17, at 12:30 p.m.

The “Shindig” has been held almost every year since the Center opened in 2007 and is popular with seniors, according to Tracy Vinzant, the facility’s event coordinator.

They “love the opportunity to… watch live entertainment, and some are especially festive with their outfits,” Vinzant said. “It’s also a great time to socialize with one another.”

The entertainment typically includes Celtic music, Irish dancing, dressing contests and interactive games, according to Vinzant. 

The Center will serve a special meal of green punch and Irish Reuben sandwiches with corn beef and turkey.

Admission is $3 in advance, payable at the Senior Center welcome desk. The registration deadline is March 15, at noon.

The Senior Center, located at 400 Municipal Drive, is a place for Hoover residents ages 55 and older to meet people, enjoy good coffee and participate in activities, including games, classes, trips and luncheons.
