Glow in the Park 5K returns to Hoover

After a year off, the Glow in the Park 5K race will return to Hoover Aug. 26 at the Hoover Met Stadium.

Hoover is the second-to-last stop on the traveling race’s 11-stop 2016 tour. This year’s run will feature an ’80s theme, and runners are encouraged to dress in the era’s clothing for a costume contest. 

During the race, runners are able to “glow” in the park by running through each of the three glow stations. In the first, they are blasted with a shower of UV glow water as they run through black lights. Next, industrial fans and pumps shoot foam that can mound up to 10 feet high. Finally, runners make their way through the glow powder station in which colored powder made from cornstarch is thrown and shot at runners. At the end of the race, runners can attend a dance party featuring food, lasers, black lights and a live DJ. 

Registration for the race is $45 for an individual and $40 each for groups of four or more. Registration includes a glow in the dark T-shirt, slap bracelet, glow necklace, two LED finger lights, glow paint and entry into the race and after-party. Glow in the Park is an all-ages run, but participants younger than 11 years old must run with an adult. 

Race packet pickup is from 5:30 to 7:40 p.m. on the day of the race. The run kicks off at 7:45 p.m., and the after-party will follow at the finish line. To register or volunteer for the race, visit glowintheparkrun.com/hooverbirmingham2016.
