Fire Department honors 15th anniversary of 9/11

A solemn crowd came together on Sept. 12 at Hoover Fire Station 2, to honor the firefighters and emergency workers who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

This is the 15th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, when not only civilians lost their lives but also the emergency workers attempting to rescue them. The Hoover FD ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m. and included multiple speakers. 

The ceremony also included a performance of the national anthem by the Simmons Middle School Choir and a bell ceremony by Senior Fire Inspector Richard Linn, symbolizing the end of the watch for those who died on 9/11. The flag outside the station was kept at half-mast since Sunday, Sept. 11, when each fire station held their own small flag ceremony at the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center, at 8:50 a.m.
