Bluff Park resident Curt Posey running for Hoover City Council

Bluff Park resident Curt Posey has announced he is running for Place 1 on the Hoover City Council – a seat now held by Joe Rives.

Posey, a supervisor for the lecture center and 32 conference spaces at Children’s of Alabama hospital, said he decided to run for the council seat because he believes the city has moved away from the core principles which built Hoover into what it is today.

“Hoover is growing at a rate that cannot be supported by our infrastructure,” Posey said in a statement he posted on Facebook. “We are overlooking our school system that once stood as the jewel of the city. We are not competing with surrounding cities, and striving to make Hoover the city of choice for new families as they make their start. I believe in responsible, measured growth through growth management ordinances that will provide a solid infrastructure for all future residents of our city. I believe in a strong, thriving school system that is properly funded. Above all, I believe in a Hoover that belongs to its people, and I want to foster open communication between citizens and elected leaders.”

Posey, 39, is a lifelong resident of Hoover and graduated from Hoover High School in 1995. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, concentrating in broadcast communications.

Posey worked six years in studio production for WBRC Channel 6, WTTO Channel 21, WABM Channel 68 and WTVM Channel 13 and then three years as a producer and editor for Diamond Studios in Birmingham before moving to Children’s of Alabama hospital in 2006.

He and his wife, Emily, have a daughter in the third grade and a son in kindergarten at Bluff Park Elementary School and have been active in the Bluff Park community’s opposition to being included in the Hoover City Schools rezoning effort.

Posey serves as the board of trustees chairman and recruitment advisor for the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at UAB, teaches 2-year-olds in Sunday School at Hunter Street Baptist Church and is a volunteer performer with the Birmingham Ballet, a youth coach with the Hoover Soccer Club and former Cahaba-Coosa chapter president of the Alabama Society Sons of the American Revolution.

He applied for a Hoover school board seat last year but was not selected.

Hoover’s election for mayor and the seven City Council seats is scheduled for Aug. 23.
